Shawnee Prairie Days

Shawnee Prairie Days was held Saturday and Sunday at Darke County's Shawnee Park. The park's Prairie House was open to the public with volunteers in prairie garb; apple butter made on the premises the day before was sold; there was a pit spitting contest, tomahawk throwing demonstration and much much more.

Volunteers included Park supporters and members of the GHS Key Club.

My sister Melinda was visiting Friday on the way home to Chicago. We had a couple hours, so we headed out to see the preparations for the weekend. Volunteers and staff were gracious...

They put Mel to work stirring the apple butter pot (an 8-10 hour job) and, after opening the Prairie House just for us, allowed her to do a final cleaning before the big show Saturday.

Our thanks to the Darke County Parks District for a great visit.
