Jordan - Independence Day in England

Jordan - Fourth of July with KFC

“We celebrated Fourth of July here… we had fried chicken.”
“Fried chicken in England? Where… what kind?”
“KFC. They have one here.”
I’m starting to get used to this Skype thing. It’s still weird, but it’s great to talk to Jordan real time… on the other side of the ocean. If you’ve seen some of the news reports from overseas where the movement jumps or gets a little blurry… that’s talking on Skype.

But it’s real. It’s live. I could even see how tired she was (it was 1 a.m. there). She says she’s almost over the jet lag but still has trouble getting to sleep.
For those who have been asking, Jordan is there as part of her college curriculum. She’s in class two days a week and gets credit for that, as well as the places she visits.
She just got back from Oxford, where the university is. She said the university didn’t do much for her, but the library was fascinating. More than five million books… a copy of everything ever published in England.
One of the Harry Potter scenes was filmed there. Didn’t impress her, though. Not a real HP fan.
Her next trip will be to Stratford, where Shakespeare was born and did most of his work. Not too impressed there, either. But who knows? She may find a gem, like she did with the library in Oxford.
Coming up… another weekend in London, a train ride to Scotland, then Dublin, Ireland.
It’s doubtful she will ever get used to dorm living in England. The lights went off while we were talking. They did the first time we talked also. If she doesn’t move enough, the motion detector turns the lights off. She gets up and moves… they come back on.
Or driving on the wrong side of the road. She’s not driving, but that doesn’t make it any less weird.
Then there’s the tale of the pizza.
She and her roommate wanted a pizza. They didn’t know the address of the college they were at. The pizza place (which turned out to be on the other side of town) didn’t know where their college was. They finally figured it out, but by then the campus was locked down.
They said they will be at the main gate in three minutes. There are four gates… which was the main one? Each girl went running – barefoot and cold – to a gate…
Never did get their pizza. And they really wanted their late night pizza.
Until next time… Jor says she misses everyone.
