Henry St. Clair Letter, Air Force Band coming to Dayton, Top Stories Online and More

Hi everyone,

The following have been posted today, Jan. 31, at County News Online:

From the Editor

Not much local to give you today, except be sure to note a Letter to the Editor about my story on Henry St. Clair – I am humbly corrected on a statement in the story. However, tomorrow we will have a great opinion statement from GHS Principal Chris Mortensen… you won’t want to miss it. Also, since not everyone checks County News Online every day, I’ve provided a section for you where you can check out stories you might have missed. Take a look… if you haven’t read them yet, you might consider checking them out.

Who was Henry St. Clair, Elizabeth Horner & a local tie... CBS' Angels at the Station

Hi everyone,

The following have been posted today, Jan. 30, at County News Online:

From the Editor

Henry St. Clair was a beloved member of the Greenville Community who never forgot someone who helped him over the years, and he cared about the kids… which is good enough for me. He was evidently also a character. He wanted what he wanted and he usually got it. We are the recipients of his generosity… as Memorial Hall approaches its Centennial Anniversary. Help us celebrate it with your stories and memorabilia.

Hi everyone,

The following have been posted today, Jan. 29, at County News Online:

From the Editor

It took me a while, but the full story on the Darke County Republican Central Committee’s endorsement of Jim Detling has been posted. As seems to be the case with many of our traditional activities today, there was a slightly different twist. Be sure to check it out.

Opinion: January 25 was Irrelevant, Alpin Hong coming to DCCA, GHS seniors honored

Hi everyone,

The following have been posted today, Jan. 28, at County News Online:

From the Editor

Every “pundit” in the U.S. has taken his or her stance on Pres. Obama’s State of the Union speech… and “Date Night.” Today, it’s my turn. Contrary to the Soviet success of Sputnik and a successful U.S. race to the moon, Obama’s “Sputnik” fizzled on the launching pad.

State of the Union, County Unemployment Up, Farm Subsidies

Hi everyone,

The following have been posted today, Jan. 26, at County News Online:

From the Editor

Ninety-Nine point Nine percent of yesterday’s news was on the upcoming State of the Union and the planned ‘Date Night.’ Obama didn’t disappoint. Some say he really did move a little to the center, but watch out for your pocketbook. He wants to clean up the tax code (a good thing, but no savings for you and me), but his ‘clean-energy’ plans will kill our economy. Watch for U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan’s Republican Response, U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann’s “TEA Party” response, and Boehner’s comments tomorrow, along with Redstate’s “Sputnik Moment.” 2011 is shaping up to be an interesting year.

Detling endorsed to replace McClurg, Brown Kiwanis Student of the Month, Prom Night & More

Hi everyone,

The following have been posted today, Jan. 25, at County News Online:

From the Editor

Tonight is Prom Night. Beginning at 9 p.m. EST, Pres. Barack Obama will address joint houses of Congress with his third State of the Union speech. The pundits say he’ll be talking “investment” which Republicans will translate into more spending. So how will the public servants who chose to “date” a colleague from across the aisle respond? Will we see a checkerboard “standing applause” instead of a solid one on one side of the aisle? It will be almost as interesting – maybe more so – than hearing what Obama has to say.

Send us your photos; An interesting mix of News & Opinion

Hi everyone,

The following have been posted today, Jan. 24, at County News Online:

From the Editor

We have an interesting mix of news and opinion today… while Politico is more interested in the new “dating” frenzy of Dems and Reps, Fox is more concerned about what the president is going to say tomorrow night. Hollywood is bringing “Red Dawn” back, only this time we get attacked by China. There is a POWERFUL piece on abortion from Townhall – Why the Shock – don’t read it if you have a weak stomach. And Redstate tells us how Obamacare can be repealed. Locally, we have a new tab. It’s under Community and is a showcase for your photos… snap a pix? Send it to us.

Special Opinion - Serving our Community through our Youth; Peace in Our Time; Send us your Photos

Hi everyone,

The following have been posted today, Jan. 23, at County News Online:

From the Editor

It isn’t often that I can picture using a Blog for my lead story, but today’s column by Janice Shaw Crouse is deserving. She repeats Rodney King’s question of nearly 20 years ago – “Can’t We All Just Get Along” – and then proceeds to tell us what will be necessary for that to happen. Great article… put it at the top of your list for today’s reading.

As many of you know by now, County News Online is a fundraising project of the Senior Scribes Scholarship Fund, a 501(c)3 entity. The sponsors you see on these pages are donating their dollars to help send Darke County high school graduates interested in some field of communications to college. We encourage you to let them know you appreciate their support for our young people. You also have an opportunity to help. Can you afford $25 a month to help our kids go to college? Or $20 a month?
