Opinion - Lot's of Excitement

Lots of excitement
That’s My Opinion
By Bob Robinson

So much is happening I don’t know where to begin. But, trust me… I’ll figure something out.
Let’s start with my domestic duties. It is not “breaking news” since it’s on facebook… Susan has a foot fracture. She’s on crutches, wearing a boot cast and will probably be dealing with this for the next three months, plus or minus.
I’ve said for decades: “You don’t want me in the kitchen… I’m the only person I know who can burn water.”
Human physiology being what it is, food is a necessary component of life. And the thought of another “fast food” substitute for “real food” quickly became unacceptable.
Haven’t burned water yet, but I burned a couple of hot dogs. Susan walks me through anything more complicated than firing up the grill… limited menu, but we are surviving!
Last week I talked with Bill Funderburg for the second time. Wednesday I toured South School again. If you’ve been following my “rants” over the past several months, you know I’ve been a proponent of an alternative to the District’s bond issue… fix the damn schools!
A sentiment echoed by many in the community.
Unfortunately, desires don’t often connect with reality. If the District is having trouble getting voters to cough up $5 or $10 a month to get our kids out of South and the Junior High, how successful do you think it will be asking for twice that much to do the repairs and upgrades necessary to meet current state and federal standards?
Won’t happen, folks! Financially strapped, as some of us are, is a legitimate reason for voting no. Nothing else washes… not if the safety of future generations means anything to us.
It seems a few are unhappy with me over this… as they say south of the border (or north of it, as the case may be), este la viva.
John Graham just expanded the “war of words” between himself and Citizens 4 Change, a group of residents living in the vicinity of his homes. He has accused those who have challenged his sex offender program of “hatred for anyone who has ever failed, anyone who has ever committed a sin, anyone who is not from here, anyone who is not like us.”
Wow, JG. If there was ever a chance of working something out, it’s history now. One more case of “desires” being replaced by “reality.”
In other news…
Darke County Commissioner Terry Haworth spoke to our local T.E.A. Patriots Tuesday evening. His comments were well received. More details coming when I have a chance to put the story together, however there is one point worth noting. It has to do with the controversial courthouse expansion.
He said that if it happens, it will be a decision for a future commission board, probably about five years down the road, and it will be after the county has a significant amount of cash reserves to keep the debt balance low.
Then he acknowledged that Juvenile Probate Judge Michael McClurg isn’t interested in a new facility and, even though Haworth said it won’t be his decision, he doubted this project was going to happen.
He also addressed some “fixes” – bathrooms in the courthouse basement, and at some point, McClurg’s security concerns.
Wednesday I joined Greenville Kiwanis for a tour of South School, and it seems my sabbatical from The Daily Advocate is at an end. If you didn’t catch the story on my blog, you can read it on the front page of today’s Advocate.
Thursday evening was the first meeting of a small but growing group of young people interested in politics and the political process. Greenville area Youth in Politics formed last year, and had its first meeting with the newly formed Mississiniwa Valley Youth in Politics group.
Greenville High School senior Paul Reitz talked about his experience as a House of Representatives page, and his inside look at how Washington politics worked. It was enlightening and fascinating… you’ll be reading about that, too, as soon as I can put it together.
Tonight is the first joint fundraiser by Darke County Center for the Arts and Greenville Eagles… An Evening of Ribs & Blues at Eagles Shade Road. It starts at 6 p.m. If you didn’t get your tickets in advance, there may still be some ribs or chicken dinners available for $17. Regardless, there will be “pulled beef” sandwiches and a great evening of music!
Tomorrow? John Graham speaks to the Republican Men’s Club, and I’m meeting “doubters” at South School at 9:30 for another tour of the facility…
GHS Key Club continues to grow… nearly 50 young people have signed up and many will be participating in Annie Oakley Days, holding a car wash, working on Greenville Township cemeteries and handling “Fair Gate” with Kiwanis.
Lots of excitement in our small communities… I wouldn’t change it for anything!
That’s my opinion. What’s yours?

Watching Neighbor said...

I just love it when John Graham shifts into his religious mode. He likes to use the Bible to justify his actions. Well, let's look at a few "other" verses that he should consider.

Matt. 7:1-2 - "Do not judge, so that you won't be judged. For with the judgment you use, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."

Hebrews 10:30-31 - For we know the One who has said, "Vengeance belongs to Me, I will repay" and again, "The Lord will judge His people." It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God!

James 4:12 - There is one lawgiver and judge who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor?

I know Graham will read these verses and throw them back into our faces, but that is okay. We all have something to learn from Scripture.

For you Bob, since he has taken you to task about drawing and quartering sex offenders, here's a verse to consider.

Matthew 18:5-7 - And whoever welcomes one child like this in My name welcomes Me. But whoever causes the downfall of one of these little ones who believe in Me - it would be better for him if a heavy millstone were hung around his neck and he were drowned in the depths of the sea! Woe to the world because of offenses. For offenses must come, but woe to that man by whom the offense comes.

It seems that Jesus wasn't too tolerant to abusers of children either.
