Ohio Republican Party Chair Kevin DeWine...

Message from State Republican Party chair, Kevin DeWine, on what many have called an historic midterm election…

November 5, 2010

Dear Republican Leader,

As we close out a busy but rewarding week, I just wanted to send a quick note of thanks for your tireless effort this year on behalf of the Ohio Republican Party.  Together, we delivered perhaps the greatest political victory in the history of our state.  Let me share just a little of what we accomplished:

Defeated an incumbent governor for only the third time in Ohio history.
Won a majority of seats on the state apportionment board, taking control of the process that will determine Ohio's legislative districts for the next decade.
Swept every statewide office, defeating four incumbent executive officeholders.
Established solid majorities in both legislative chambers.
Added at least 12 seats in the Ohio House, defeating 10 incumbents and picking up two open seats (with 2 recounts pending).
Gained two seats in the Ohio Senate for the largest majority since 1967.
Defeated five congressional incumbents, winning 13 of 18 U.S. House seats.
Helped fire Nancy Pelosi and put an Ohioan in line to be the next Speaker of the United States House of Representatives.
Retained a seat in the United States Senate.
Kept three seats on the Ohio Supreme Court.
Elected the first female chief justice in the history of the state.
Defeated a sitting chief justice for the first time in 24 years.
Won 77 percent of all non-judicial countywide races, adding 23 new county commissioners, six new auditors, one county treasurer, one county coroner, three Cuyahoga County council seats and one Summit County council seat.
Re-elected every incumbent Republican non-judicial countywide officeholder.
Won 63 percent of appellate judicial races, netting two additional seats.
Broke every volunteer voter contact number on record, making more than 3.5 million phone calls and knocking on more than 1.5 million doors.
Improved early voting performance to its highest level in party history.
Produced and distributed more than 540 individual mail projects on behalf of our candidates.
Turned out more voters than the Ohio Democratic Party, which pundits labeled as the nation's third largest Democratic organization and "the best state party in the country."

We did all of this on a fraction of the resources available to us in any previous election of the past decade.  These accomplishments are truly staggering, and words cannot express my gratitude for the hard work so many of you voluntarily gave to the effort this year.  This is only the beginning of our resurgence.
I hope you enjoy the weekend and find some time to rest.  You deserve it.

Kevin DeWine
Chair
