Congressman Jim Jordan, tells Shelby group we have to behave like Republicans; Are you a rude cell phone user?; Scribes at Heartland & More

Hi everyone,

The following have been posted today, Feb. 28, at County News Online:

From the Editor

Congressman Jim Jordan tells members and guests of the Sidney Shelby County Liberty Group that Republicans are going to have to start behaving like Republicans. “We have problems that need to be fixed and we have a window of opportunity to fix them.” Do you have a cell phone? Have you ever spoken on that phone in your car or while walking on the street? According to a poll published in DBJ, you are considered rude.

History of Kiwanis; Visitors Bureau events for March; Freddie & Fannie need more dollars; Loan and Budget Management & More

Hi everyone,

The following have been posted today, Feb. 28, at County News Online:

From the Editor

Greenville Kiwanis celebrates 90 years of community service this year. Roy Haines, club historian and reporter, has built a fascinating history of the club, from 1921 through 2010. CNO will be publishing it in five parts. Be sure to check it out. Government “dumbocracy” never ceases to amaze me. The two Fannies – both government subsidized – need another $3.1 billion to stay afloat. Is it any wonder we are in financial crisis?

New KCI Lt Governor; Pancake Breakfast; Ohio Slots & Union Issues; Obama Transparency & More

Hi everyone,

The following have been posted today, Feb. 27, at County News Online:

From the Editor

We have a lot of political stuff today… transparency, DOMA, government shutdown, slots in Ohio and a reasonable look at our state’s union debate. But what’s important is what is happening right here in Darke County. We have young people who are taking an active role in leadership, community and character building that will benefit us – and them – as they prepare for the challenges of the future. One of those groups is the GHS Key Club and its new Division 3 Lt. Governor. Check it out… oh, and by the way, how about a good old-fashioned pancake breakfast? Join us.

Buchy on collective bargaining; Judge rules on Obamacare; Preparing kids for independence; A "reasoned" look at the union debate & More

Hi everyone,

The following have been posted today, Feb. 26, at County News Online:

From the Editor

We’ve had three major rulings on Obamacare… this one that it’s constitutional. It’s now two against, one in favor. Check out what Marybeth Hicks has to say about preparing our kids to be independent. And finally, a somewhat balanced approach to all of the rhetoric about the state-union disputes… and it comes home to roost at the doorsteps of those who “serve” us. Finally, Al Bliss makes a point about the numbers involved in the Columbus rallies… read it and decide for yourself.

Hi everyone,

The following have been posted today, Feb. 25, at County News Online:

While the bloggers and news services are locked into the “big government” vs “big unions” struggle, Darke County high school students got a treat last week in the name of Allan Wolf… author, poet, performer and educator. I had the pleasure of escorting him to Tri-Village High School last Friday. His performance was upbeat, educational and funny, all rolled into one. Check out today’s lead story and photos.

Commissioners Corner; DC Parks; Wisconsin Union Mess; Arizona Immigration back in the news & More

Hi everyone,

The following have been posted today, Feb. 24, at County News Online:

From the Editor

Wisconsin is still in the news… and about the only stories and opinions coming over the Internet are more Wisconsin. I tried to pick some of the more interesting out of the two dozen or so. I find it interesting that there is so much uproar over asking union members to tighten their belts like the rest of us. In our lead story today, Commissioner Mike Stegall says the county has been told that the next two years are going to be tough financially. That means unions will simply be “joining the pack… not leading it.”

Darke County History, Washington's Birthday, Quilt of Valor, Union Protests Come to Ohio & More

Hi everyone,

The following have been posted today, Feb. 22, at County News Online:

From the Editor

It’s George Washington’s birthday today. Anyone notice? Anyone have a clue when Abraham Lincoln’s birthday was? Frankly, I’m not sure what other presidents are supposed to be honored on President’s Day, but I think we’ve diluted the importance of the days that should be honoring the Father of our Country and the tortured man who saved it some 60 years later. Today’s blog on Pres. Washington’s birthday is worthwhile reading. Also, if you are interested in history, our lead story, Down on the Farm, is a great read.

Two Greenville High School Grads – Jennifer Westfall and Brooke Kennedy – discovered some new information about their community while completing an assignment for a freshman history course at Wright State Lake Campus. They had to go to some public meetings and interview a local politician. It seemed it was an eye-opening experience. This is CNO’s lead story today. Mehaffie talks about new Edison president; Government shutdown?; Trillions in fed bucks missing; Space Shuttle & More

Hi everyone,

The following have been posted today, Feb. 20, at County News Online:

From the Editor

The local news of the day is Edison Community College’s new president Cristobal “Cris” Valdez. According to Edison Trustee Darryl Mehaffie, Valdez wants to take the college to the “next level” and has the skills to do it. Through its two campuses – Piqua and Wagner Avenue – Edison offers affordable, quality education for Darke County high school graduates. Is a federal government shutdown in the making? Many seem to think so. More on that in today’s County News Online.

Local Calamity Days, Fox makes "stuff" up, Have a Little Faith, Rasmussen Week in Review & More

Hi everyone,

The following have been posted today, Feb. 13, at County News Online:

Vanishing moderates – both Dem & Rep – is worthy of note, mainly because I seem to be having more difficulty finding them in my personal life. It’s tough having an intelligent conversation when one side or the other is so far off the wall that you can’t even communicate. The biggie, though is the Fox News Insider report that “Stuff is Just Made Up”… it’s worth a smile, if not a horse laugh. Funny that the “made up stuff” of the other side was never mentioned.

How to pass Greenville Levy; Ice & Snow Challenges; Boehner Award; Phasing out Fannie & Freddie and More

Hi everyone,

The following have been posted today, Feb. 13, at County News Online:

Greenville has tried three times to pass a new facilities levy. Three times, the voters said no. Senior Scribe Robert Rhoades analyzed the voting and noted that city residents said yes; others said no. Conclusion? Get outlying areas involved in the process. Hi everyone,

The big news of the week, of course was Greenville City Council passing the ordinance extending the restricted zones for sex offenders.
