The Ohio Senate leadership next year will have strong ties to the Miami Valley with Sen. Keith Faber, R-Celina, as President Pro Tem, the number two spot, and Sen. Shannon Jones, R-Clearcreek Twp., as Majority Whip, the number four GOP leadership spot.

Sen. Tom Niehaus, R-New Richmond, will move up to Senate President from his current spot as President Pro Tem and Sen. Jimmy Stewart, R-Albany, will be Majority Floor leader, the number three spot. Niehaus will replace current Senate President Bill Harris, R-Ashland, who is leaving due to term limits.

Republican senators who will serve in the next legislative session made the choices on Tuesday.

Faber represents the 12th District which includes Shelby, Preble, Mercer, Champaign and Allen counties and parts of Auglaize and Darke counties. He is currently Majority Floor Leader.

Jones represents the 7th District which includes Warren County and part of Hamilton County.

Republicans will control the Senate next year, 23-10, up from their current 21-12 majority. One of the new Republican members is former Tipp City Councilman Bill Beagle who defeated Democratic incumbent Fred Strahorn in the 5th District.

The 5th district covers most of the city of Dayton, Trotwood, Harrison and Jefferson townships, parts of Huber Heights and Riverside, all of Miami County and part of Darke County.
