Pelosi May be Ousted Even if Democrats Win

Republicans are eager to regain control of Congress so they can push Nancy Pelosi out of her position as House Speaker. While Democrats don’t want to lose their grip on Congress, some of them aren’t so hot on Pelosi either,
Roll Call reports.

More than 10 moderate Democrats in the House have declined to offer public support for her. That includes Reps. Bobby Bright, Ala.; Jim Marshall, Ga.; Gene Taylor, Miss.; and Walt Minnick, Idaho.
“I would prefer a conservative Democrat, a Blue Dog Democrat like myself,” the freshman Bright told Roll Call. “If that doesn’t happen, then I will vote for who I think will allow me to represent my constituents the best.”

Woodward: Obama Threatened Afghan Defeat

In a point-blank confrontation in the Oval Office on the day before
Thanksgiving last year, President Obama gave Defense Secretary Robert
Gates a gun-to-the-head choice on Afghanistan.
Obama told Bush Administration holdover Gates he could either endorse
the president's idea of 25% fewer new troops than the military wanted
- or the president could go with what he described to Gates as a "hope
for the best" plan of  "10,000 trainers," under which Afghanistan would
almost certainly be lost to the Taliban.
The meeting was recounted in the first of three planned excerpts in the Washington Post from Bob Woodward's new book, "Obama's War," which appeared in the newspaper on Monday.
"Can you support this?" Woodward quotes Obama as asking Gates.
"Because if the answer is no, I understand it and I'll be happy to
just authorize another 10,000 troops, and we can continue to go as we
are and train the Afghan national force and just hope for the best."

Obama Slams Fox News as 'Destructive'

President Barack Obama is blasting Fox News as "destructive," saying the cable channel's point of view is "undeniable." Obama made his comments in a Rolling Stone article, reports The New York Times. Fox is in tune with legendary newspaper baron William Randolph Hearst and other media giants who expressed a point of view, Obama said.

“The golden age of an objective press was a pretty narrow span of time in our history,” Obama said in the Rolling Stone interview.

“Before that, you had folks like Hearst who used their newspapers very intentionally to promote their viewpoints. I think Fox is part of that tradition. It is part of the tradition that has a very clear, undeniable point of view.
"It’s a point of view that I disagree with. It’s a point of view that I think is ultimately destructive for the long-term growth of a country that has a vibrant middle class and is competitive in the world.”
Obama also said Fox is a winner on the bottom line: "As an economic enterprise, it's been wildly successful."

Isn’t modern medicine wonderful?  A hundred years ago, the average life expectancy in the United States was 47 years.  In 2009, the federal government recently announced that it is 78 years.  And, now, in an age when NASA has machines roving Mars, many states are extending the voting life of citizens for years after they are medically pronounced dead.
There are 116,000 dead eligible voters in Massachusetts.  And in Florida, one major newspaper recently investigated and reported that almost 15,000 dead Floridians are still hanging around on the election rolls – just six weeks before one of the most vicious and important election cycles in our history.  Can it be the sun?  Most States have similar statistics.  Every two years, states must report to the federal Election Assistance Commission (EAC) information about the integrity and accuracy of their voter rolls.  The latest report is not good news for our democracy – or our international reputation.  South Dakota, Texas, Kentucky, Mississippi and Indiana report in excess of a dozen counties with more registered voters than breathing human beings old enough to vote.  West Virginia, Maryland, Iowa and North Carolina also reported having eligible deceased voters on their rolls.  The list goes on and on.  And so does the real risk that these voters will have illegal votes registered in their names.  Close races, like the Franken/Coleman race in Minnesota can be decided on just a handful of votes.  We may have to go to purple thumbprints at this rate.  Hugo Chavez must be howling at this American disgrace.
Democrats seem to be suspiciously inept at cleaning out the rolls.  The Ohio Secretary of State is not at all anxious about the fact that nearly 5,800 departed Ohioans are still registered to vote.  A partisan Democrat, Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner is more concerned about the living – Spanish speaking only voters.  She has cooperated with the Department of Justice to force Cuyahoga County to spend $500,000 on bilingual ballots to accommodate about 6,000 non-English speakers.
